MEETING AT CHENNAI ON GANDHI JAYANTHI DAY - 2ND OCTOBER,2009

“WIDE SPREAD DRINKING HABIT AMONGST STUDENTS IN TAMIL NADU HOW TO SAVE THEM FROM CATASTROPHE?”

COLLEGE STUDENTS TO PRESENT THEIR VIEWS

.
Nandini Voice for the Deprived, a Chennai based NGO would organize a meeting on Gandhi Jayanthi Day (2nd October,2009) when several college students from all over Tamil Nadu would present their views on “Wide Spread. Drinking Habit Amongst Students In Tamil Nadu - How To Save Them From Catastrophe?”

Mahatma Gandhi repeatedly spoke against the liquor habit amongst the people and termed it as the root cause for several of the ills in the society. He called for the implementation of prohibition all over the country. Accordingly, prohibition was enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Unfortunately, prohibition is not in force in India today except in Gujarat state. The liquor habit is spreading rapidly amongst all sections of the society and particularly the youth, causing several serious social problems. The economy and peace in several households are being uprooted and morals in personal lives are getting distorted.

Garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paying homage and respect to him on Gandhi Jayanthi Day without observing his call for implementing prohibition is strange.

College students would form a team of three students, put their heads together, formulate their views and one of them would present their views. Cash awards will be presented to the best of presentations by the students..

Venue: Youth Hostel, Indira Nagar, Adyar , Chennai-600 020

Date: 2nd October 2009
