Dead Ceremony of Bore-Well & Birth day celebration of the pond in Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh

Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, India

Hundreds of farmers participated in the Dead Ceremony of the Bore-Well and Birth Day celebration of the Rewasagar (the holy name of the Pond in the region). Umakant Umrao, IAS, former district collector Dewas motivated farmers of Dewas district to construct ponds in 10% to 15% of their own lands. Umakant Umrao started digging ponds himself in the lands of the farmers to motivate them. Farmers achieved profits and moved towards a happy life, they realised the bore-well as a devil for farmers thus they arranged a dead-ceremony of the Bore-Well with the leadership by a progressive farmer Raghunath Singh Tomar.

Dewas district was one of the most drought districts of the Madhya Pradesh but now there are many hundred ponds per village in hundreds of villages.

Raghunath Singh Tomar told to the GRI that we needed a dead ceremony of the Bore-Well because it is like a Devil named Bhashmasur and we never want to see him again in our region. Bhashmasur was a devil who could have ruined things by putting hand.
