PRESS INVITE: TISS-UNFPA National Consultation Meeting on Population Ageing, Dec.15-16, 2011

The Centre for Development Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences in collaboration with Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore and Institute for Economic Growth (IEG) with support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is organizing a two-day National Consultative Meeting on the above theme during 15-16 December, 2011 at TISS, Mumbai.

The consultation is expected to share preliminary research findings from secondary research carried out by UNFPA-ISEC-IEG partnership with a wider audience of stakeholders like Senior Citizens Organizations, NGOs, Government Departments, experts from National and State Human Rights Commissions, academicians in the field of social sciences, social work, health, demography and other experts associated with ageing issues. Such a meeting is expected to fulfill the objective of developing networks for evidence-based advocacy among stakeholders. Given that population ageing is emerging, as a major issue in the society, it is very necessary to have a common platform for synergistic efforts between various stakeholders and also for promoting effective partnerships and networks for working together towards achieving common targets and goals. The meeting is also expected to share the advocacy work done so far by the stakeholders, review the achievements or lessons learnt and to identify areas of future work in the field of ageing in India.

UNFPA officials and Dr. J.C. Breman from Amsterdam University along with several eminent personalities, Dr.S.D.Gokhale, International Longevetic Centre, Pune, Mr. R.N. Mital, President, AISCCON, Dr. K. R. Gangadharan, Vice-President, International Federation on Ageing will be present for the meeting.
