JIP Condemns Suicidal Attack on Religious Procession at Karachi

Journalists For International Peace, strongly condemned the suicide bomb blast during 10th Muharram procession near Light House traffic signal on M.A. Jinnah road Karachi on Monday (28 Dec). The blast occurred at 04:13 pm , in which 43 innocent persons were martyred.

The dead include 2 children and 1 Rangers official. More than 80 people have been severely injured in the suicide bomb blast. Twenty one dead bodies have been brought to Civil Hospital Karachi whereas 4 dead bodies have also been brought to Jinnah Hospital. About 40 injured have been brought to Civil Hospital Karachi. Ten of these are said to be in a critical condition. There are about 40 injured, including 5 women, have been brought to Jinnah Hospital Karachi.

The police said that the suicide bomber was in his teens and he was about 18 years old. The suicide bomber hit the fourth lane in the Ashura procession. The bomb blast hit the major Muharram procession near Light House traffic signal on M.A. Jinnah road when thousands of Muslims were paying tribute to the scarifies of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his family. The Ashura procession was coming from Nistar Park and was on its way to Hussainia Iranian Kharadar.

Violence erupted soon after the blast and enraged people came on roads to protest the attack on Ashura procession. Angry mob set on fire many vehicles and many markets. The firing incidents were also reported from various parts of the city after the blast. All the Muharram processions were stopped by the security forces and were not permitted to proceed forward.

“JIP terms the suicide Bombing against any religion , as every religion of the world teaches , peace and harmony-No religion is formed from Divine , as promoter of violence” . Iftikhar Chaudri, the President of JIP issued the statement . He demanded that international Community must come forward to expose the conspiracy of such suicide attacks , as it aimed at provoking and instigating sectarian clashes and damaging the peace and harmony . “The plans of the conspirators would prove in vein who are involved in the suicide attack and want to fire the sectarian violence in the country.” He added.

He demanded to the government to take all the possible security steps to secure the lives of common citizens. He maintained that , some miscreants looted and burnt the shops and cars of common innocent citizens of Karachi, which incurred loss of billions of Rupees. JIP prays to the government to immediate identify the culprits, arrest them and ensure exemplary punishment to the culprits. He also demanded to International Community to convene an international conference “ to curb the menace of Terrorism through Suicidal Attacks” and to ensure Peace and Harmony in Pakistan. JIP also appealed to support newly formed Global Peace Committee on Interfaith Harmony, in Pakistan. All members JIP, pray for the departed souls, to rest in peace.
